Well over the last twenty years ive been doing BJJ ive heard i think every discussion under the sun about BJJ. One of the many questions i get daily is are we a gi or no gi school. My response is always with a question. Did you wear a hoodie or coat and jeans to practice ? Are you not wearing a gi pretty much all day long in casual attire ? When was the lat time you watched people take off their cloths to get in a street fight? The no gi players are always discrediting the gi because they feel like its less real in fact its more real. If you wanted to train at as close to real as you can then put a gi on and then put gloves and a mouthpiece and start slugging and grappling that's reality. Here is the point you are only limiting yourself and your training by choosing one or the other. If your a checkers player eventually get bored and gravitate towards chess. Dont limit yourself expand your field of knowledge and be ready to learn everything Both can be learned and both are allot alike in terms of strategy, movement and skills. My answer when asked this question is always when its cold i wear gi when its hot i take it off enjoy your own personal journey. Prof.JT Taylor
